About My Harry Potter Quiz

Why we made it

Most house quizzes give you a result and nothing else. We wanted a quiz that explains itself: one that shows how your answers were scored, gives you your score for every house and then helps you understand what your house actually stands for. The guides grew from there, because the most common question after "which house am I in?" is "what does that say about me?"

With the HBO series arriving on Christmas Day 2026, a whole new generation is about to meet Hogwarts for the first time. We want this to be a good place to start, and a good place to come back to.

Who runs the site

My Harry Potter Quiz is written and maintained by Michael Mc.

Michael has read all seven Harry Potter books, and like a lot of readers he never quite stopped thinking about which house he'd be in. He loves reading and he loves building fun projects, and with a new generation about to meet Hogwarts through the HBO series, he decided to jump in and create a dedicated fan site.

He writes the quizzes, guides and articles here himself, works from the books first, and keeps adding new pages as the series gets closer. If you have an idea for a quiz or spot something that needs fixing, he would love to hear from you.

How the quizzes work

We don't hide how results are worked out.

• House quiz. Each of the 12 questions has four answers, one leaning towards each house. The house you pick most wins, and ties go to the house you chose most recently. The full method is on the homepage.
• Patronus quiz. Each answer adds points to six traits: courage, loyalty, wisdom, freedom, gentleness and playfulness. You get the Patronus whose trait mix is closest to yours. We tested all 1,048,576 possible answer combinations to make sure every one of the 20 animals can come up and none dominates. More on how it works.

These are quizzes for fun and reflection, not psychological tests. We don't make claims about accuracy that we can't back up.

How we write and check our content

• Original writing. Every question, guide and article is written for this site. We don't copy text from the books, the films or other fan sites.
• Books first. We treat the seven books as the main source. Where the films or later writing by J.K. Rowling differ or add details, we say so.
• Sourced news. Our HBO series pages list their sources and show the date the facts were last checked (currently 4 October 2026). We don't report rumours as fact.
• No made-up numbers. We don't invent statistics, testimonials or "most popular" claims.
• Corrections. If you spot a mistake, tell us. We fix confirmed errors and update the page date when we do.

All the illustrations on this site, including the house scenes, house emblems, character symbols, Patronus animals and blog covers, are original artwork made for My Harry Potter Quiz. We don't use official crests, film stills, photos of the cast or artwork from the books or games.

You don't need an account to use anything here. The quizzes run in your browser, and your answers aren't sent to us or stored. See our privacy policy for details.
